Marijuana was actually made illegal for a completely different reason than the common belief to why it was made illegal. The official name for marijuana is “cannabis-hemp.” It was originally made illegal because it was untaxable, so they made the “Marijuana Tax Act of 1937.” Also, back in the early 1900s, cannabis-hemp was used to make methanol, which is what cars used to run on. Henry Ford (The founder of Ford cars) actually had a cannabis-hemp plantation on his property so that he could make methanol to run his cars on. Cannabis-hemp was also used to make many other things (like rope, as an example). As the Rockefeller family (A major name in the oil company) discovered that you can use oil to run cars, they decided to take advantage of it and had scientists work more on it. They realized that they had no chance against the methanol cars which use cannabis-hemp. The oil companies went to the United States government and proposed that they make cannabis-hemp illegal so that they could make money off oil. Sure enough, the government agreed and made cannabis-hemp illegal so that the oil companies could make money. It wasn’t until later that they realized people can smoke marijuana, and the government was in a win-win situation “Okay, well we already made it illegal. Now we can help the oil companies make money and also keep the U.S. citizens from using cannabis-hemp as a drug.”
